Sucker-rod pump design · Beta

Design for the well you actually pump.

Built by rod-lift experts. Enter a well, then pick the unit, pump, and rods yourself or let Lift Studio pick them. Every design is checked under every condition in the well's fillage profile, not just a full barrel.

How it works

Six steps, left to right.

The same steps run along the top of every design in the tool. Changes save on their own, and a change to the well marks its designs as needing a run.

  1. 1

    Well

Fluids, pressures, and the deviation survey, entered once. Reservoir data if you have it.

  2. 2

    Designs

Every design of the well, ranked by score. A design is a scenario you can name and change.

  3. 3

    Well conditions

The target production or stroke rate, how the barrel fills, and the pump intake.

  4. 4

    Equipment

The pumping unit, the pump and tubing, and the rod string, picked by you or by Lift Studio.

  5. 5

    Solver

How the rods are calculated, and the button that runs the design.

  6. 6

    Results

The score, the cards, and the key numbers first, then the equipment and charts along the string.

Fillage profile

Every condition. Every limit.

The fillage profile says how the barrel fills over time. The design is sized for the most common condition and has to pass all of them.

Or set it From GOR, the fill the well's gas-oil ratio leaves at the pump, or Custom, your own conditions, each with a fill and a share of the time.

Auto design

Let Lift Studio pick the equipment.

Set Who picks the equipment to Lift Studio, tick the pumping units, pump sizes, and rod strings to consider, and set the stroke rates. It tries every combination you allow, keeps the ones that pass every limit, and ranks them by score, then by cost.

Or choose the unit, pump, and rods yourself, and the run checks them. Build a tapered string for me builds the rod string.

Results

Everything an engineer checks, in one run.

Each run simulates the pumping unit, the rod string along the well's survey, and the pump together. It also tries the design at other stroke rates, intake pressures, and pump fills to find the fastest safe rate.

A design scored 8.3 out of 10 with its stroke rate, production, fastest safe rate, loadings, and points lost

One score per design

Every design gets a score out of 10 after its run, and the results show what cost it points.

Solver

Deviated, with friction

The default wave equation adds the rods' friction on the tubing in a deviated well. The classic wave equation is the other option.
